Steady Echoes is Scott Young making music with a little help from his friends.  The results are songs of textured acoustic landscapes, where intimate vocals  confess • turn a phrase • tell a story.

The Steady Echoes project was born from bursts of inspiration over the last 4 years All songs were written, performed, and produced by Scott Young in collaboration with Dwaine Bell (guitar), Chris Secrest (Bass), John Alexander (Piano),  John Paquin (additional vocals), and Chris Holden (Co-Producer/Mixer).

Recorded on a houseboat in Sausalito California with a goofy dog (aka Ginger Brown) sleeping through most of it.

LOVE

LOVE” is the second original I’ve released and is thus far our most streamed single.

When does love RAIN down?  That was the question I had after the chorus of “Love Love Love Love Love Rains Down” spilled out of me one morning.  It was a song writing experience where it felt like someone (or something) just handed it to me... as if it was all cued up indefinitely by the universe and waiting for the right moment to drop on my head.

When I set to writing the verse, I struggled with the concept of ‘love raining down’.  Romantic love is an obvious direction to go, but eventually I came to the conclusion that I wasn’t singing about individual love, rather the BIG love, the love that lives in everything, the love that connects all.  The only time I feel that love on a regular basis is via my daily practice of transcendental meditation, so I challenged myself to write verses about my experiences with meditation.

“Close your eyes, and just breath, find your mantra and repeat, mind goes quiet, mind goes quiet”

Eventually I felt Love “Reigning” rather than “Raining” was more accurate… thus:

“Love Love Love Love Love Reigns Down”

This song features John Alexander on keyboards and the other amazing voice you hear is John Paquin.

SUNRISE

SUNRISE” is the first single and it’s been a thrill to watch it push past 25k streams on Spotify. SUNRISE explores the inner-voice we all posses that shows up in our darkest hour to encourage us, offer a healthy perspective when we are underwater in the nonsense of life… or simply lost in our own drama.

“Surrender, take the breath, let it all go... The Sun Will Rise Again

We used multiple layers of guitars, including one that was Nashville-tuned giving it a 12-string guitar sound in certain places. Guitarist Dwaine Bell added some amazing progressions that keep the song moving along while never getting in the way.

Singer John Paquin starts in the first verse as a background vocal that builds the first verse, adds a dynamic layer to the chorus, then sings different lyrics all together in the second verse. John and I were in an alternative rock band years ago, he was the lead singer while I sang from behind a drum set. Basically I handled the Psychedelic Furs covers and he sang everything else:-) In our originals, the contrast of our vocal styles gave us a unique sound that I wanted to explore again.
